Black Lips

Only a month or so late....The Black Lips' newest album 200 Million Thousand, released Feb 24, 2009, is a new GavelandTone favorite. But the album title could have been better; it reminds me of federal bailouts. In any event, the music, at its core, is garage rock. It's full of distortion, coarse vocals, surf rock drums and heavy guitar riffs. Extending from that core is a blend of folk and 60's psychedelia. Think Iggy Pop meets the Ventures. Hell, listen to the links below and decide for yourself.

As a side note, The Black Lips are co-headlining the 2009 AthFest with fellow Georgians Dead Confederate. Expect a loud swarm of fun at the show and an ear ringing good time the following day. Athfest runs from June 25-28.
